TROUBLE SHOOTING

Problem Possible Cause The Simple Solution to the Problem

Espresso does not run

through.

Appliance is not turned on or

plugged in.

Ensure the machine is plugged in and the POWER button is

pressed to on.

Water tank is empty. Fill fresh cold water into the water tank.

The selector switch is not on

espresso position.

Turn the selector switch to espresso position.

Espresso grind is too ne. Use a ground coffee suitable for espresso machines; see: ›Useful

Tips‹.

Espresso grind tamped too

rmly.

Do not tamp the ground coffee too tight in the filter; see: ›Useful

Tips‹.

The lter is blocked. Clean the filter. You can clear the pores of the filter with the

cleaning tool; see ›Care and Cleaning‹.

Espresso runs out too

quickly.

The espresso grind is too coarse. Use a ground coffee suitable for espresso machines; see: ›Useful

Tips‹.

Not enough ground espresso in

the lter

Measure with the measurring spoon a sufficient amount of coffee

powder; see ›Preparing the Espresso‹.

Ground espresso not tamped

rmly enough

Tamp the ground espresso more firmly in the filter; see: ›Useful

Tips‹.

Espresso runs out

around the edge of the

lter holder.

Portalter is not inserted in the

grouphead properly

Insert the portafilter correctly. Refer to ›Inserting The Portalter‹

There are espresso grounds

around the lter rim.

Clean any excess ground espresso from the rim of the portalter

to ensure a proper t into the grouphead.

Too much ground espresso in

the lter

Measure with the measurring spoon a sufficient amount of coffee

powder; see ›Preparing the Espresso‹.

Ground espresso has been tam-

ped too rmly.

Tamp the ground espresso less firmly in the filter; see: ›Useful

Tips‹.

Incorrect lter for amount of

ground coffee used.

Ensure you use the small lter for 1 cup of espresso and the

larger lter for 2 cups of espresso.

Espresso extracts as

drops from the por-

talter.

The water tank is empty or low. Fill fresh cold water into the water tank.

Espresso grind is too ne Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Ground coffee is

marked accordingly.

Machine is blocked by mineral

deposits.

Descale the appliance and unclog the pores of the filter with the

needle of the cleaning tool.

The appliance makes an

unusual sucking sound.

The water tank is empty. Fill fresh cold water into the water tank.

The water tank is not installed

properly.

Install the water tank correctly on the appliance. The guide grooves

on the back of the water tank must properly engage in the recesses

on the back of the appliance. Press the tank down low so that the

water valve opens in the bottom of the water tank.

The coffee is too weak or

watery.

The coffee is ground too coarsely. Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Ground coffee is

marked accordingly.
